Thai Pūsam

The ascendancy (highest position of dominance) of a certain stars in some months is celebrated as an important festival of that month. In the month of Thai (Mid January to Mid February) the star Pūsam (Pushya in Sanskrit) has such importance and celebrated as Thai Pūsam. Thai Pūsam falls on the Pournima (or comes as close to it as possible) in the month of Thai/ makara coinciding with the star Pushya.
