GANESHA CHATHURTI
TIMINGS
We all offer prayers to Ganesha before undertaking any task including puja to other Gods and also for thanking him for helping us in accomplishing our work with success.Ganesha is believed to be born on the Sukhla Paksha Chathurti in the month of Āvani. This year Ganesha Chathurti falls on 31st August 2022.
Madhyahna Ganesha Puja Muhurat - 10:21 AM to 12:52 PM
One day Goddess Parvati asked Nandi to guard the door and let no one pass. When Lord Shiva came Nandi allowed him to pass as he is loyal to Lord Shiva. Goddess Parvati got furious on the fact no one is loyal to her. She took the turmeric paste from her body and created Ganesha and gave life to him and thus created her own loyal son.
Next, when Lord Shiva came Ganesha did not allow Shiva to enter and Shiva’s army could not defeat him. Lord Shiva himself came and severed Ganesha’s head. Goddess Parvati was so furious that she decided to destroy the entire creation. Lord Brahma vehemently requested to reconsider her decision. Goddess Parvati agreed on two conditions – Ganesha is brought back to life and Ganesha be forever worshiped before all the other Gods. Lord Shiva sent Lord Brahma to bring back the head of the first creature he crosses that is laying with its head facing North. Lord Brahma soon returned with the head of a strong and powerful elephant, which Shiva placed on to Ganesh’s body.Lord Shiva and other Gods blessed Ganesha.
REASONS FOR NOT LOOKING AT MOON
We should not look at the moon on Ganesh Chathurthi.
The legend behind this:
One day Ganesha was going riding on his rat and slipped and fell. The Moon laughed and annoyed Ganesha cursed the Moon saying, “From today nobody will look at you”. Moon begged for mercy. Ganesha took pity and confined his curse only to that particular day of Ganesha Chathurti. Even Shri Krishna could not escape this curse. He was falsely accused of stealing the Syamntak jewel. Shri Krishna prayed to Ganesha and requested whoever has sinned by seeing Moon on Sukhla Chathurti and if they worshiped Ganesha on Krishna Chathurti the sin should be removed. Ganesha accepted his request. Shri Krishna did Ganesha Puja on Krishna Chathurti which is called as Sankatahara Chathurti and got blessings from Ganesha. After than Akroorar gave the jewel to Shri Krishna and Shri Krishna was happy that blame of stealing jewel was removed.
Hence we should not look at Moon on sukhla chathurti in Aavani month ie. Ganesha Chathurti. If we do puja on Krishna Chathurti (Sankatahara Chathurti) and give arghyam to Moon our difficulties and hindrances will sure to be removed.
