Ths Saturdays of Purattāsi month is celebrated in the Southern States. People do puja to Venkateshwara and the symbols — Chakra, Nāmam and Shank. Those who cannot do on all the Saturdays try to do on the odd Saturdays — 1st, 3rd and 5th or on any one of the odd Saturdays.
This year (2021) there are five Purattāsi Saturdays —18th Sept., 25th Sept., 3rd Oct., 9th October and 16th Oct. 2020.
Importance of Purattāsi Sani
Purattāsi starts when Sun transit to Kanya Rāsi and Budhan Lord of this Raāsi goes uchcha. Sun a friendly graha to Budhan by virtue of transit to Kanya Rāsi makes Lord Vishnu, Adi-Devatha of Budhan pleased during Purattāsi. Lord Venkateshwara Avatar Star is Sravana which is in Makara Rāsi owned by Saturn. The entire month is auspicious. It is more auspicious on Saturdays. In Astronomy Saturn is the farthest planet from the earth and Saturn has seven things of thin flat consisting of numerous narrow ringlets made up of ice particles that travel around the planet. Lord Sri Venkateswara is also in seven hills and called as 'Lord of Seven Hills'.
Naradar wanted to know how people can worship Lord Ventakeshwara after his departure to Vaikunta. Lord advised Naradar that he will bless the devotees who fast on the Saturdays of Purattāsi month and pray to Him. He will also relieve hardship caused by Lord Shani during Puratasi month.
This year Navaratri will start from 17th October. The entire month is devoted to Gods and therefore marriage, house warming ceremony and other functions are not held in this month.
How to perform puja on Purattāsi Sani
Start the day hearing the Suprabatham. After purifying the house and ourself cook Taliyal for God. Main items in Taliyal are rice, milk payasam or chakrai pongal, sambar with lots of vegetables, poriyal, curd, ghee, grated jaggery. Light 'Maa Vilakku' and recite Vishnu Sahasranamam.Importance of Maa Vilakku
The reason behind Maa Vilakku is that the lord Venkateshwara expects his devotees to be close to him in hills. However, that is not possible for everyone due to various reasons. For those who could not travel to Tirupati hills, can light Maavillakku in their houses and worship Lord Vishnu by chanting Lord's name 'Govinda'. Lord beams himself through the light of the Maa Vilaku and blesses them through rays of Maa Villakku light.
